Why is repenting the foundation of the Christian faith? Why did Jesus say “repent – for the kingdom of God is at hand?” The reason we must repent is very – very simple. The reason we repent is because we have all broken at least one – but more likely all of the 10 Commandments multiple times, and will continue to do so throughout our lives. These commands are not arbitrary, silly, puerile or stupid – they are what give us a real and abundant life.
Repenting is GOOD for the soul!
Who in their right mind would not agree that honouring one’s mother and father – regardless of the bad things they may have done to us is not the correct thing to do? Who would argue that not killing and not murdering is not the right thing to do? Who would argue seeking the true God with all of our soul and mind is not the right thing to do?
And who in their right mind would pretend they have not broken all of the 10 commandments at one point or another? None of us. If we did we would have broken the command not to give false witness! The fact is the 10 commandments are beautiful, simple and actually quite easy to keep, but we have all broken them and doing so is very serious to God if not acknowledged since He is pure.
Therefore you must repent in order to be blessed abundantly as He wishes to do. Not to do so is rebellious and dishonest quite frankly – and God knows that a heart and mind that deceives itself is in grave danger.
An unrepentant heart is a hardened heart (and the cause of the worlds problems!)
God knows that in a unrepentant heart is rebellious heart, and a rebellious heart is a hard heart, and a hard heart cannot be helped by anyone – not even God Himself. But let just one shard of light into the darkness recesses of our hearts and He promises to restore the rest. Simply repent and face God and He will fulfil his promise to deliver us from evil – even from ourselves.
Repenting is the number one thing you must do over and over every time you sin conscientiously. Why every time? What is husband does not apologise his wife and each time he mistreats her? What good wife would not say sorry to her husband each time she mistreated him?
And so God is our loving father wishes to be treated as such – and we must say sorry each time not just for him – but mainly for our edification and healing notification. Repenting is good for the soul!
