Advice & Help for Christians on being circumcised
First off – why would God in the Bible require such a thing? Well perhaps we can get an idea where it says we should not mark our bodies, say in today’s world with tattoos. In other words if we are to submit ourselves to His property – we should be marked out ONLY for him and not men. This fit’s in with His nemesis making it his business to mark his followers we read about in Revelations.
So what better way to mark out your people that with circumcision – at the point where reproduction takes place so a person’s belonging to god cannot be mistaken. I can’t think of one. Remember God is marking out His people not because they are innately better – but that through this line of people (not by blood but by belief and commitment) He plans to reconcile ALL men to Himself and these people are the method by which He has chosen to show His light to the world.
People often mock this idea saying that no one should be chosen by God and therefore be placed above another – but that is a WRONG understanding of what ‘chosen’ means in this case. It actually means harsher lives, harsher judgments by God and harsher persecution. “Judgement BEGINS a the house of God.” Not something to be desired like getting rich or being chosen for a top job. It’s almost a burden in some senses.
So now we see why God may have marked out His chosen people – in order to bring light into the world in it’s greatest point of darkness. To show that He alone can save men and they cannot save themselves.
We only have to look at the judgements of God on His OWN people to see that we should not be jealous of anyone that is chosen by God. It inevitably means trouble – a higher bar is set that ultimately other men will not have to attain all because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Now mean need only believe earnestly and confess their sins.
